The present Estimate stands at $11,004,128 (and includes no sum for the rehabilitation of defective bridges). This is an excess of $3,004,076 over the Estimate of June 1907 and $1,143,644 over last year's Estimate.
The following are the sums in which additional expenditure has been incurred in consequence of the action of the local Government:
Purchase of Blackheads Deep Sea Wharf site for Terminal Station $615,000

Inaccurate as the Estimates appear to be in detail, with an excess shewn where a saving should appear and vice versa, - they seem with one exception of the tunnels (by far the largest item however) to balance very well owing to the large savings effected in Earthworks and Ballast.
